Background, rationale and objectives

Wetland Assessment and Monitoring Platform for Transboundary River Basins in Southern Africa (WeMAST) project is pleased to announce a training course on Earth Observation (EO) applications in wetlands monitoring and assessment.

Expected outputs/Learning outcomes

By the end of the training, participants should able to demonstrate:

  • Understanding the use of geospatial tools and their application in wetland mapping and assessment
  • Understanding of the role of EO data in wetland mapping and assessment
  • Delineate wetland extents and their temporal variability in sub watersheds within river basins usingEO data
  • Assess wetland condition changes using EO dataParticipants: The course is targeting River Basin Organizations, National Water/ Environmental Authorities, Academic and Research institutions, Private sector, Local communities’ representatives, Non- governmental organisations, Women in natural and water resources management.

Mode of Training

The training will take place in a classroom setting in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Participants must bring their own laptop computers capable of performing basic GIS and remote sensing analyses. During the training, participants will be given a training kit, which includes a set of documents.

Training dates

The two-day WeMAST training course on EO applications in wetland monitoring and assessment will run from 2 to 3 March 2023.
