Supporting EU-African Cooperation on Research Infrastructures for Food Security and Greenhouse Gas Observations (SEACRIFOG)

SASSCAL, in partnership with a range of African and European research institutions, participates in SEACRIFOG, a EU Horizon 2020 project that aims to prepare the ground for long-term (EU-supported) research into greenhouse gas emissions, climate change and food security in Africa. SEACRIFOG aims to

  1. identify the essential needs to develop science-based strategies to measure and respond to climate change and improve food security in Africa
  2. formulate a roadmap towards fully interoperable and accessible research infrastructures in agricultural and climate research in the EU and Africa that match the needs of the users, and
  3. deliver a contribution to capacity building and human capital development in Africa.

The project was launched in March 2017 and will run over 3 years until February 2020. It will be delivered by a consortium of 6 African and 10 European partner organizations through 8 work packages. SASSCAL will directly contribute to work packages 1-5 and 7 (see figure below).
