On 21 August 2017, the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA), in line with the goals of its NSDI (National Spatial Data Infrastructure), presented and launched Geofind (http://geofind.nsa.org.na/), an online geospatial data portal, as well as the NSDI Metadata Browser, an online geospatial data catalogue of different government data sets.

The event was opened by Florette Nakusera, the NSA Board Chairperson, and inaugurated by the Minister of Land Reform, Honourable Utoni Nujoma and Minister of Economic Planning and Director General of the Secretariat of the National Planning Commission (NPCS), Honourable Tom Alwendo.

Alex Mudabeti, the Manager for GIS and NSDI Coordination at the NSA gave an insightful demonstration of both the Metadata Browser and Geofind.

SASSCAL will soon be putting in place its own regional Data and Information Portal and it was interesting to observe these developments in Namibia. The Executive Director, Dr Jane Olwoch, the Director of Science and Technology, Dr Jörg Helmschrot, the Namibia National Node Director, Peter Erb, and staff members of the SASSCAL Open Access Data Centre (OADC) attended the launch.
