In February and March 2016, three courses within the MSc program Applied Geology were handed over to the University of Namibia, Windhoek.

The course contents were prepared and taught by visiting experts from the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), Hannover, Germany. The UNAM-BGR collaboration further aimed at involving interested individuals from external institutions, which was appreciated by additional participants from the Geological Survey of Namibia, different Basin Management Committees and the Geohydrology Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry.

Within SASSCAL, Task 81 is aiming at supporting the recently established MSc program Applied Geology at UNAM in order to support capacity development in the fields of hydrogeology and hydrology. In addition to this task, UNAM and BGR are collaborating in Task 10, ‘Improving the understanding of groundwater related processes and establishing groundwater budgets for water management purpose’, which resulted in several scientific publications.
