The Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) is hosting a virtual first SRTC Meeting under Green H2Atlas-Africa project. H2Atlas-Africa project is funded by the Germany Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The project is the first-phase of a Go Green Go Africa Hydrogen initiative of BMBF and African partners in the Sub-Saharan region (SADC and ECOWAS countries) to explore the potentials of green hydrogen production from the enormous renewable energy sources.
The meeting, to be held on 23 March 2021, will be attended by the technical committee members, representatives from SASSCAL, Forschungszentrum Jülich, Southern African Development Community (SADC) Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE) and various key experts in Green Hydrogen sectors in SADC.
The SRTC is chaired by the SASSCAL Executive Director Dr Jane Olwoch and comprised of experts in different fields from the participating countries in Southern Africa. The SRTC will provide input and participate in all decisions regarding the H2 ATLAS Project and the follow-up phases.
The project was officially launched on 10 June 2020 at Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH. Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH is the lead technical partner and is supported by SASSCAL as the coordinating partner in Southern Africa. SACREEE is a key strategic player for the implementation.
The objectives of the meeting, which is being held for the first time since the commencing of the project in southern Africa are to,
- Clarify the roles and responsibilities of the SRTC
- Highlight on the project status in Southern Africa
