The Hon. Minister, Maria Cândida Teixeira, Minister of Science and Technology, was delighted to welcome the SASSCAL Governing Board to Luanda, Angola on 26 July 2017. She reminded the Board on the important decisions that were taken during the signing of the joint declaration. One of the decisions being the importance of rotating meetings in member countries to have a better understanding of partner countries. Secondly, the Hon. Minister stressed the achievements and preliminary results that have been implemented during SASSCAL 1.0, such as weather stations. She also stated Angola’s commitment to the SASSCAL initiative and to country contributions. Further, the Minister confirmed Angola’s commitment to attend the Ministerial Conference planned for September 2017. In conclusion the Hon. Minister advised management to continue mobilising additional resources. She wished the Board a successful meeting and a wonderful stay in Angola.
Board Chairperson’s Address
In her address, the Board Chairperson, Mrs Jane Mubanga Chinkusu, expressed appreciation to the Minister for the welcome and the opportunities presented to the Board. She mentioned that the visits to INAMET and the Faculty of Sciences of the Agostinho Neto University were very enriching. She stressed that the results produced by the SASSCAL research portfolio indicate the hard work that has been put in and that this should be the basis to carry the work forward to SASSCAL 2.0. Lastly, the Board Chairperson expressed appreciation to the Hon. Minister for the commitment Angola has shown.
The Board Members visited the Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics of Angola (INAMET) – the Angolan state institution responsible for the policies related to the acquisition, treatment and meteorological and geophysics data management and maintenance of the Angolan meteorological networking stations.
The SASSCAL Governing Board members visited the Faculty of Science at the Agostinho Neto University where preliminary results were presented from the Angolan PIs.
