Climate Change! 21st Century Humanity greatest threat. Across the globe, the effects of climate change on agriculture, water, biodiversity, and energy are felt by societies across the socio-economic spectrum, especially for citizens of the developing countries such as Zambia. For this reason, Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) and National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) are co-hosting a Zambia National Science Week from 22nd to 24th of November 2022 under the theme ‘‘Climate Smart Technologies: Towards A Green Economy.”
The Conference will focus on Climate-Smart energy and agriculture technologies, while the Energy and Climate Change Dialogue will focus on SASSCAL’s core activities with a special emphasis on Green Energy potentials in Zambia. The event will bring together researchers, academia, civil society, policy makers, private sector players, students, and members of the community from Zambia and the region.
The co-hosting institutions SASSCAL and NSTC are proud to organize this important event and be part of the dialogue to solutions of climate change and its effects in Zambia.
NSTC is a statutory body established by the Science and Technology Act No. 26 of 1997. The main function or mandate of the Council as prescribed in the Act is to ‘promote science and technology so as to improve the quality of life in Zambia.
While SASSCAL is a joint initiative of Angola, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Germany in response to the challenges of global change. Its vision is to be a regional climate change Centre on sustainable land use for improved quality of life in the southern African Region and aims at generating and using scientific knowledge products and services for decision making on climate change and adaptive land management. Since its formation in 2012, SASSCAL has funded Research in Zambia through its partners to address common climate change and land management challenges our societies are facing.
