SASSCAL welcomes its new Renewable Energy Expert.
Katundu Imasiku is a seasoned engineer with expertise in renewable energy systems, electrical engineering, telecommunications systems and their associated civil infrastructure development and has extensive experience of more than 16 years in project management and leadership in energy, telecommunications and non-technical programs.
His area of expertise includes energy and climate modelling, energy efficiency, life cycle assessments and industrial ecology and sustainability.
He has served in various positions, in South Africa: as a Protection and Design Engineer at Netgroup Solutions; Network Development Planner and Substation Design Engineer at Eskom; in Zambia as a Projects Engineer, Sectional Engineer and Projects Manager at Zamtel; as an Operations Director at Zamculture Enterprises in Zambia and as a Technical Director and Giciye 3 hydropower Plant Commissioning Engineer at Green Energy Support Services in Rwanda.
He holds a B Eng. in Electrical/ Electronics Engineering, an MBA and is a PhD Candidate in Renewable Energy and several specialized certifications in Solar and Photovoltaic Systems, Microgrid and Smart grids, Power Engineering, Risk Management, Geographical Information Systems, Network Management, Power Factory, and MicroStation.
He is a registered member of both the Engineering Institute of Zambia, Engineering Council of South Africa and is the University of Rwanda representative at the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and a 2018 Joint Undertaking for an African Materials Institute (JUAMI) Fellow, Africa-USA. He was recognized to have published the most downloaded journal manuscript in 2019 by the Food and Energy Security Journal, Willey, USA and will be awarded the Best Energy Track Paper Award at the 2nd International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM) Zimbabwe Conference 2020 to be held on 7 -10 December 2020.
